TNA's "Option C" vs WWE's "Money in the Bank". Which is Better?

Recently, WrestleZone columnist Josh Isenberg wrote an article discussing his predictions for TNA's Destination X 2012 pay-per-view. In the article, Isenberg made the comment "This is the beginning of X Division champions being a Money in the Bank Winner." (in reference to "Option C" proposed by Austin Aries that allows the X-Division champion heading into Destination X pay-per-view the opportunity to relinquish the X-Division championship in favor of a shot at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship)

I think that was the silliest way Josh could've described "Option C". To compare Option C to Money in the Bank is ridiculous. They're nothing alike. The mere fact that you are comparing a title to a briefcase is insane on the face of it. Option C requires you to be the X-Division title holder going into the Destination X pay-per-view, which empowers the X-Division title and makes it more prestigious while WWE requires you to win a ladder match that guarantees you a shot at a WWE World Title at any time. The way Money in the Bank has been booked typically breeds weak or cowardly champions that are unable to get over even with a world title. Option C is better because it gives a FIGHTING CHAMPION who has already proven his worth in the X-Division a chance to grab the brass ring while simultaneously making the mid-card title more important as well as emphasizing the importance of the X-Division and the Destination X pay-per-view as a whole. Money in the Bank puts a bunch of random "contenders" (most of which were not contenders a week or two before the match) in a ladder match to decide who ends up becoming the next world champion by some sort of fluke 10 second match. Money in the Bank was supposed to be an easy and quick way to get a wrestler over, but has actually backfired. By winning a World Title via MITB cash-in, you are basically guaranteeing that you are going to be a weak champion that still isn't over (ex. Jack Swagger, Alberto Del Rio, CM Punk). CM Punk won Money in the Bank twice and was never as over from those title wins as he was by doing it the traditional way in 2011 (when he turned "Best in the World"). Option C comes off way better than MITB because the challenger has EVERYTHING to lose while the MITB winner has virtually nothing to lose (the MITB winner is not a champion, thus he has nothing to lose by an actual loss because he will be no worse off after losing his cash-in match than he was before he won MITB). This means that Option C is a more important match than the MITB because it pits the X-Division Champion against the World Heavyweight Champion for all the marbles. I would much rather see two fighting champions headlining a pay-per-view for the world title than a bunch of random guys in a ladder match only to watch the winner gain the World Title by pinning a champion who was already lying in the ring unconscious in a 5-second fluke win lol.

Sorry Josh, but Option C and Money in the Bank are apples and oranges. Option C is better than Money in the Bank. Also, if you know anything about TNA you know that "Feast or Fired" is a rip off of MITB. Option C is actually a moderately original idea. If anything, MITB is more closely related to the Royal Rumble. A bunch of guys competing for a shot at the world title at a later date. It's the same thing, all they did was just change the gimmick match from a battle royal to a ladder match. The basic premise is the exact same though.

WWE Unresolved Storyline: What Happened to Daniel Bryan Cashing In at Wrestlemania 28?

Well, for those that saw WWE TLC 2011 last night it's official. Daniel Bryan is the new World Heavyweight Champion. Bryan cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on the Big Show in order to win the World Title. Now, I'm all about Daniel Bryan winning the world title because it's the ultimate underdog story. I'm happy for Daniel Bryan. However, there is one thing about the whole deal that makes absolutely ZERO sense to me.

I thought Daniel Bryan declared he was going to cash in Money in the Bank at Wrestlemania 28? I thought Daniel Bryan was trying to do it the right way because he wasn't about a cheap cash in on a defenseless tired superstar.

This is the problem with the WWE that gets on my nerves. Their writing is far too inconsistent. First, they make a big deal that Daniel Bryan will cash in at Wrestlemania 28. Then, they turn around and do the cheap same old "cash-in on a tired opponent that just wrestled a grueling match" routine. The problem with this is that it's NOT a way to get a wrestler over. The only person who truly got over with that strategy for the long term was Edge, and that's because it became his entire gimmick. He was an opportunist. He cut every corner to win. This type of cash in makes no sense for Daniel Bryan because it's completely out-of-character for him. It doesn't make sense with his personality. I think creative blew this one big time. I'm so tired of WWE starting a story and never coming close to resolving it. They did the same thing with The Miz/R-Truth conspiracy angle. Miz and Truth said they were going to expose the conspiracy, and then broke up without ever coming close to uncovering anything. Why have Daniel Bryan make the statement that he's cashing it in at Wrestlemania and then turn around and cash it in at a weak gimmick PPV like TLC? They could've built anticipation for Wrestlemania for months, but instead now they have no plan for the Smackdown WHC at Wrestlemania. 

CM Punk Leaves WWE With the World Title

At MITB, CM Punk defeated John Cena and prevented Alberto Del Rio from fulfilling his destiny and cashing in his briefcase as he escaped with the WWE Championship, effectively leaving WWE with it's most prized possession. In an update recently, CM Punk uploaded a picture of the WWE Title in his fridge. This was Punk's 'Hostile Takeover' moment. We'll keep everyone posted. Congratulations to CM Punk for sticking it to corporate!

CM Punk Demands WWE Ice Cream Bars Be Brought Back in New Contract

CM Punk finally confronted Vince McMahon tonight on RAW, and it was worth the wait. The very first live contract negotiation did not end with the usual someone getting smashed through a table... match signings typically go... and boy was I glad. WWE actually remained unpredictable for that segment for the most part with the exception of John Cena once again interrupting so he could make it "all about Cena" like always. I'm about to call Cena 'Hogan 2.0' because he is a black hole swallowing the spotlight from all that is good.

Anyways, CM Punk was on fire on the microphone, demanding in his contract that Vince McMahon bring back the WWE ice cream bars. He also scolded Vince McMahon, telling him that he was "The voice of the voiceless". Punk said he was the voice for Colt Cabana and Luke Gallows... which actually got split "Colt Cabana"/"We want ice cream" chants. Then Cena comes out to try to make something that has nothing to do with him... all about him. John Cena called Punk a hypocrite. Punk laughed at John because John is the real hypocrite. John Cena always talked about being the underdog... and now he is no longer the underdog Punk said. He went on to say that Cena went from being the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees... that he was a dynasty now. Cena then proceeds to punch CM Punk, and that made CM Punk remember why he wants to leave the WWE and so he rips up the contract.

Now, the only thing that is getting on my nerves is how John Cena always has to come out and try to make everything about John Cena. CM Punk has the crowd eating out of his hand, but John Cena can't have that. He has to have all the attention. So, he'll come out and babble his usual crap... you know... the same cookie cutter "you think you're better than me? prove it" boring sap that Cena spews every week for the last 6 years. I'm looking forward to Money in the Bank. For ratings sake, put your money on CM Punk walking out with the title and Cena being fired.

Kane: And the Flame Returns

It looks like the WWE has finally gotten something right as of late. At the Money in the Bank PPV last night, Kane won the Smackdown MITB match, and cashed it in on Rey Mysterio the same night to win his 2nd WWE Championship (excluding the lowly WWECW Title). Since Kane was unmasked about 7 years ago, he's gone from World Title contender all the way down to mid-carder borderline jobber the last several years. So, Kane winning the World Title was not only unpredictable, it finally gave Kane his stroke back. Maybe now, he will be one to be feared once again. Congratulations Kane. Who knows, maybe Christian will finally get a main event push... but I'm not holding my breath.
