At Wrestlemania 30, The Undertaker's Streak was officially broken by Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman. The air literally left the arena with the entire crowd in absolute shock and silence. The Undertaker staggered in the ring for several minutes after the match ended before walking to the back completely bewildered.

Upset Alert: Usos and Christian Defeat The Shield on Smackdown 6-28-13
by Brian Phelps
This past Friday on the June 28th, 2013 edition of Smackdown, The Usos and Christian defeated The Shield CLEANLY in what has to be one of the biggest upsets of the last couple of years. While I am happy for Christian and even more for the Usos, I must say that the booking makes no sense.
What WWE is telling you is that John Cena, Daniel Bryan, and Kane could not defeat The Shield.
Ryback and Team Hell No could not defeat The Shield.
Chris Jericho and Team Hell No could not defeat The Shield.
The Undertaker, Kane, and Daniel Bryan could not defeat The Shield.
But... Christian and the Usos defeated The Shield clean? This is what doesn't make sense sometimes about WWE's booking style. They spent the last 8 months showing us that the biggest names in the business such as John Cena, The Rock, The Undertaker, Ryback, etc could not stop the Shield... but now they expect us all to believe that the Usos who most of the time can't even make it on the Pay-Per-View cards and long time upper mid-carder Christian can beat them.
Is this more a case of the rise of The Usos or the start of the marginalization of The Shield?

WWE Storyline Conflicts: Why Did Undertaker Help Kane At RAW 1000?
by Brian Phelps
At RAW 1000, just as Kane was about to be attacked by Jinder Mahal, Tyler Reks, Curt Hawkins, Drew McIntyre, and Hunico the Undertaker came out to save Kane. The five mid card superstars claimed that they had not received ANY opportunities dating back to the first episode of RAW. Both Kane and Undertaker laid waste to all five jobbers before doing their trademark taunts as the crowd chanted "This is awesome!".
Oddly enough though, this entire segment made absolutely NO SENSE storyline wise. Right off the bat, the jobbers reasons for attacking Kane made no sense. What does Kane have to do with them not receiving any opportunities? Wouldn't that be the General Managers fault? Also, wasn't Curt Hawkins a former tag team champion with Zack Ryder? Wasn't Drew McIntyre told by Vince McMahon that he was the "chosen one" early on in his WWE career? Also, I don't think any of these superstars were even in the WWE before 2006 so their claim that they had not received any opportunities since the first episode of RAW (which was in 1993) made no sense either. Curt Hawkins was about 8 years old when the first episode of RAW aired.
Here's the real part that made no sense at all about this. Why did the Undertaker help Kane? Am I the only one that remembers that the last time the Brothers of Destruction were together, that Kane left the Undertaker in a vegetative state, turned Paul Bearer against the Undertaker, and buried the Undertaker alive with the help of the Nexus? So, this whole segment from top to bottom really made absolutely zero sense. I mean I get that it's the 1000th episode of RAW and they're trying to be nostalgic, but there were better ways to reintroduce the Brothers of Destruction in a way that didn't completely contradict their own story arcs.

Why Does Triple H Have to Steal Everyone's Thunder?
by Brian Phelps
You all remember this past Summer when CM Punk was on fire, and Kevin Nash screwed him out of the WWE title at Summerslam right? Do you also remember how Triple H somehow spun the beef between Kevin Nash and CM Punk into Triple H defending his wife's honor from CM Punk's derogatory comments? Somehow he turned a beef that had nothing to do with him into a story about Triple H defending his manhood to CM Punk.
Then there's the Undertaker feud. Shawn Michaels put on two of the greatest Wrestlemania matches ever, and came the closest to ending the Undertaker's streak. Of course, Triple H decides he has to "one up" Shawn Michaels. He can't let Shawn be the closest to beating the Undertaker. HE has to be the closest one to beating the Undertaker. If Shawn Michaels took the Undertaker to the limit then Triple H has to leave the Undertaker unable to leave under his own power. If Shawn Michaels fights the Undertaker twice, then Triple H has to fight the Undertaker THREE TIMES! It can't just be a regular match like Shawn Michaels first match with the Undertaker. It has to be a "No Holds Barred" match. If Shawn puts his career on the line in the second match, then Triple H has to have "Hell in a Cell" for his second match. Triple H always has to outshine everyone. It seems like he can't let people have their moment without interjecting himself. Now, I do think that Triple H made sense to fight the Undertaker last year since the Undertaker retired his best friend. HOWEVER, their feud last year wasn't even about Undertaker retiring his best friend. It was about Undertaker and Triple H being the last ones left from the Attitude Era. Triple H said himself last year that the "streak" was all he had left. So, once again it wasn't even about defending the honor of his best friend Shawn. It was about Triple H wanting to get the only accolade that was left for him to attain. It was about ego. Now, I could obviously be wrong about Triple H. Maybe all of it is just a coincidence, but maybe it's not. Over the years it just seems like Triple H has a history of trying to "one up" other people. It just seems like he has a way of making everything about him.

WWE Unresolved Storyline: Why Did The Nexus Help Kane Bury the Undertaker Alive at Bragging Rights 2010 PPV?
by Brian Phelps
Since WWE has been getting worse and worse about never resolving storylines, I'm going to start calling them out on stories that were never resolved. I'm going to start calling them out on false advertising. Basically, I'm going to hold them to their words. So every time they don't resolve a story arc I'm going to post on it. I'm going to take you all back to WWE Bragging Rights 2010.
At this pay-per-view, Kane and the Undertaker faced off in a Buried Alive match. If you all remember toward the end of the match, the original Nexus interfered and helped Kane to bury the Undertaker alive. The Nexus interfering made absolutely no sense because they had no beef with either wrestler, and there was no storyline between the Nexus and Kane or Undertaker. So why did they interfere? Why did they help Kane defeat the Undertaker? Well, Wade Barrett came out later and simply said "We have our reasons". So, it was believed that this was going to lead to some sort of crossover storyline between Nexus and Undertaker/Kane. Well, it didn't. In fact, nothing was ever mentioned of it ever again. The WWE simply expected us to forget that the Nexus helped Kane bury Undertaker. This is another story arc that the WWE never resolved and expects us just to forget it ever happened.

Should Abyss Unmask? A Look Back at Other Stars Who Gambled on Life Without the Mask
by Brian Phelps
http://wrestlersway.blogspot.com
Recently, Abyss gave an interview to Slam! Wrestling where he said he would be open to losing his trademark mask. Now, I'm not the biggest Abyss fan, but I feel like Abyss unmasking may be a mistake. You have to be very careful when it comes to unmasking because history has shown us that unmasking can be a very mixed bag when it comes to that particular wrestler's fortune. Some grapplers have unmasked with great success, and others have unmasked and it flushed their careers down the toilet. I am here to take you all on a look back at other stars of the squared circle who chose to unmask, and the outcomes it had on their careers and perception of their characters. Buckle up.
Juventud Guerrera
Back in WCW's heyday, Juventud Guerrera wrestled under a mask. Under his mask, Juventud Guerrera seemed like just another luchadore along with Psychosis, Ciclope, and other stars of the time. It wasn't until he lost a Mask vs Title match at WCW's Superbrawl pay-per-view to Chris Jericho that Juventud's popularity really took off in the United States. Juventud Guerrera seemingly overnight became the top luchadore in the company, briefly enjoying a popularity burst where he was bigger than Rey Mysterio for a short while. He had a memorable feud with Raven's Flock faction where he defeated 7 footer Reese with an assist from Van Hammer, and then joined up with Rey Mysterio, Kidman, and Konnan to form the Filthy Animals. This was the apex of his American wrestling popularity. He later went on to run his own faction in WWE called the Mexicools. Juventud is to this day one of the greatest cruiserweights of all-time mentioned right alongside Rey Mysterio, Kidman, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko and Chris Jericho. Other than Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero, Juventud will go down as arguably the number three luchadore of all-time as far as American pro wrestling promotions go. Had he not unmasked, Juventud Guerrera would probably not be mentioned in the same breath as those guys... nor would he be remembered like he is now.
Mortis aka Chris Kanyon
Kanyon began his WCW career under a masked gimmick wrestling as a character by the name of Mortis. After being denied entry into Raven's Flock, Mortis sought revenge on Raven. During a cage match between Diamond Dallas Page and Raven, Mortis disguised as a riot cop unmasked much to everyone's shock. From that point on, he became Kanyon. Once unmasked, it was almost liberating to Kanyon as he enjoyed great success that he never did as Mortis. He ended up joining up with DDP and Bam Bam Bigelow to form the Jersey Triad, and eventually became United States Champion. Had he continued to wrestle under Mortis... he may never have ended up enjoying the success that he did. We would probably chuckle and say things like "You remember that goofy WCW wrestler Mortis?" in the same way that we currently say "You remember that goofy WCW wrestler Glacier?"
Rey Mysterio
Even the greatest masked luchadore of all-time was unmasked. During his time in WCW, Rey Mysterio lost his mask at the hands of the Outsiders. The unmasking was a huge blow to Rey Mysterio's career and popularity. I actually believe that he ended up becoming less of a draw when he lost his mask. My feelings are further bolstered by the fact that when Rey went to work for WWE after WCW's demise, Vince put the mask back on Rey as if the unmasking never happened. Look at him now, a multi-time World Champion.
Kane
On the other hand, we have examples of wrestlers who unmasked and the outcome wasn't as kind to them. The legendary Kane is one of these examples. Under the mask, Kane was the "Big Red Machine". He was one of the most dominating forces in WWE history. We were told he wore a mask because the Undertaker burned their house down, killing their parents and as a result Kane was burned beyond recognition. So when Stone Cold Steve Austin convinced Kane to unmask, we were given a guy that just looked like he had some chimney soot on his face, two different contact colors for his eyes, and the front half of his head shaved. Hmm... it was very... weird to say the least. It was such a let down for us all, and this is one unmasking that we want to take back so badly. Everyone thought masked Kane was awesome. No one likes unmasked Kane. He's boring and lame. I haven't been interested in Kane since he unmasked, and 30 feuds (exaggerated) with the Undertaker since then isn't going to change my mind. Kane is particularly important to note because his gimmick is VERY similar to Abyss's gimmick, and therefore there is some logic in assuming that Abyss would wind up in the same situation.
In closing, I think Abyss would face a very similar situation to Kane's unmasking as it was essentially the death of his popularity. Abyss should think about the gamble that unmasking is on a wrestler's career before deciding. I vote to keep the mask. Please Abyss, do not open Pandora's box.

Mark Henry Has Been Dominating... Who Cares?
Over the last month or so, Mark Henry has been on a path of destruction in the WWE... decimating Kane, the Big Show, and terrorizing WWE Officials. He smashed the Big Show through the side of a steel cage, but man who the heck cares? We all know that it's nothing but a fluke. We all know Mark Henry will never be WWE Champion. He is to this generation what Bam Bam Bigelow was to the '90s and King Kong Bundy was to the '80s... just a big menacing guy that's only there to look threatening but never actually amount to anything. This isn't the first time Mark Henry has been pushed. They pushed him back in 2006 when he was feuding with Undertaker and Batista. WWE only pushes Mark Henry when there is a lack of main event heels on Smackdown. He's just put in every once in awhile basically for filler.. to make it look like there are more main event heels then there really are. Whenever they get another main event heel or two, he'll be back to being VERY mid-card. Does the WWE really think we forgot that Mark Henry spent a decade being a big jobber before he was ever pushed? If you really think we believe Mark Henry as a dominant wrestler... yeah right. Pretty soon he'll be back to losing to dudes like Evan Bourne, with the occasional "King Kong vs Godzilla" confrontation with Kane or Big Show during a battle royal.

Who is Better? Undertaker or Sting?
by Brian Phelps
http://wrestlersway.blogspot.com
Also check out "Who is Better? Bret "Hitman" Hart or Shawn Michaels?"
Also check out "Who is Better? Bret "Hitman" Hart or Shawn Michaels?"
I recently got into a debate with a guy on youtube on who was the greater wrestler between Undertaker and Sting. He said Undertaker, and I said Sting. This is my response to him. What do you guys think?
Bear with me, this will be long... but it contains some good information. Before I start, I want to say that I do not think you are wrong in your opinions or that I am "more" correct than you in my opinion. We just have a difference of opinion. I couldn't exactly explain myself fully because Youtube doesn't let you type that much lol. Undertaker or Sting. I say Sting, and you say Undertaker. I base my decision on the following criteria
1. Ability
2. Gimmick
3. Who did they put over?
4. Feuds
5. Storylines
6. Mic Skills
7. How did said wrestler impact his company?
8. The X Factor - A special attribute or significance about the wrestler that puts them over the top
While I respect both wrestlers as two of the all-time greats... I consider Sting the better all-around wrestler. Here's my argument as to why. The Undertakers biggest pitfall is that he is a one trick pony. Now, don't get me wrong The Undertaker is beyond the shadow of a doubt one of the all-time greats. Let's be real though, and examine that he does have many flaws.
1) Undertaker has NEVER been great on the mic. Undertakers gravelly voice, and cookie cutter "one size fits all promos" prevent him from standing out. Does anyone ever truly recall a great Undertaker promo? The answer is no. You're not going to get much beyond "This is my yard"... and "Rest in Peace"... or "One by one they've came and one by one I've put them down".
2) The Undertaker is not an amazing wrestler. He's not going to wow you with any fancy moves. He's just a very agile big man. We can talk all day about how HBK/Taker matches are the greatest Mania fights ever... but that's not because of the Undertaker. That's because HBK can make any man on Earth look like a million bucks. HBK did for Taker's legacy what he also did for Razor Ramons career at WM10... and that's make a bigger guy look like a million bucks. HBK did the same for Stone Cold and Bret Hart at Wrestlemania. Taker also had a fairly solid match against HHH this past year, but that's because it was a no DQ. Think about it... how many legendary Mania matches does anyone remember Taker for before HBK? MAYBE the 1st Kane match at WM14??? and that's a big maybe. The Undertaker has gotten by on his theatrics for at least a decade now. He isn't the wrestler he was in the 90s. Also, how many people has Undertaker really put over? I can't really think of anyone who wasn't already over. You might make an argument for Brock Lesnar, but by the time they feuded Lesnar had already defeated The Rock and Hulk Hogan CLEANLY. That's because Vince McMahon has fed EVERYONE to the Undertaker. He spends 99% of each year injured now anyways. He only wrestles once a year and he is 6 years younger than Sting.
3) This is my biggest schtick with him. The Undertaker is all gimmick. Everything about him is a gimmick. He's the most successful gimmick wrestler ever. The Undertaker has gotten by on his theatrics for a decade now. If you took away the Undertaker gimmick, he would just be another big man (which is exactly what he was in WCW before he went to the WWF in 1990). He was just in the right place at the right time, and got saddled with the greatest gimmick in wrestling history. Without "The Undertaker" gimmick, Mark Calaway would've just been another Crush or Adam Bomb flash in the pan big man. He was a low mid-carder in WCW. Look at when he tried to change his gimmick from the "Deadman" to the "Biker" gimmick. It was widely panned, and he eventually went back to the "Deadman" gimmick but by the time he did the damage had already been done to his character. He was no longer as believable as he once was. The "Biker" gimmick really killed his aura... and he's never really got it back all the way. He has the look, but the mystique is gone. I think I've made a very strong case thus far. The Undertaker character is the greatest one trick pony of a gimmick ever. Even all his memorable matches are gimmick matches. Hell in a Cell, Casket, Buried Alive etc. He needs all the theatrics, smoke and mirror entrances, and gimmick matches because unless he's wrestling HBK... the majority of his basic singles matches are boring. Anyone can "no sell" another wrestlers moves... and that is why any other big man could've very well have been chosen to be "The Undertaker". His act never really changes, but no one cares. He's like a classic rock band that just plays the same routine every concert but will always sell out the arena. He's even spawned spin-off characters like The fake Undertaker, Kane, The fake Kane, Paul Bearer, and even the short lived character Mordecai (who was supposed to be the "Undertaker" of Light... instead of darkness). The Undertaker was also the precursor that led to future successful deranged gimmicks like Mankind, TNA's Abyss, and The Brood. I'm not taking anything away from The Undertakers accomplishments, but Mark Calaway would likely have never had the career he had if the "Undertaker" gimmick hadn't taken off the way it did. Any number of big men could've played "The Undertaker" gimmick and had the same result. The fake Undertaker proved it, as Brian Lee pulled off playing the Undertaker to the T. He had the look, a stunning resemblance, the moves down, and everything. He actually had most people fooled initially. He was just 2 inches too short, and you could've fixed that by thickening the bottom of his boots... but they left it that way to help tell the difference. Nash, Crush, Adam Bomb, Brian Lee could've been given the Undertaker gimmick instead of Mark Callous and the result would've been the same. When Crush was in WCW as Brian Adams in Kronik, he actually looked like he could pull off an Undertaker style gimmick.
On the other hand, no one else could've pulled off Stings character.
1) Sting is one of the top mic workers ever along with The Rock, Ric Flair, and Rowdy Roddy Piper as far as electrifying the crowd. The only person who can get a crowd more juiced than Sting using only a microphone is The Rock. I'll hook you up with several Sting promos if you don't believe me. People sometimes forget Stings mic skills because WCW's hey day is 10 years gone now, and because not as many people watch TNA. Only The Rock has more NATURAL born charisma than Sting.
2) Sting isn't afraid to put people over. Sting in WCW put over rising singles stars Booker T and Scott Steiner, and as a result made them legitimate main eventers... and even put over Vampiro. In his nearly 6 years in TNA, he has worked his butt off to put over AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Abyss, Christian, and Samoa Joe.
3) Unlike The Undertakers reinvention as the "biker", Stings reinvention as the "Crow" was the most successful reinvention in WRESTLING HISTORY and is still talked about constantly to this day. Sting has reinvented himself SUCCESSFULLY, not once but TWICE. To reinvent yourself this late in your career successfully is incredible. "Joker" Sting became along with CM Punk the most talked about story in wrestling in 2011. It was a hit for TNA, and a much needed one at that. Sting's ability to reinvent himself is amazing, and a true testament to Sting's understanding of the business and the fans.
4) Sting has held legendary feuds and battles with a who's who of hall of famers and legends including Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, The Four Horsemen, Lex Luger, Rick Rude, Randy Savage, Goldberg, Bret "Hitman" Hart, The Great Muta, The Steiner Bros, Dusty Rhodes, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Kurt Angle, Rob Van Dam, Jeff Hardy, The Road Warriors... I could go on but do I need to? Stings classics with Ric Flair at the Clash of the Champions really put WCW on the map. Stings feud with Hulk Hogan culminated in Sting SHATTERING PPV BUY RECORDS at Starrcade 97.
5) Sting is arguably the greatest all-around pro wrestler of all-time, and never had to step in a WWE Ring. Sting NEVER had the million dollar production, publicity, promotion, and marketing that Undertaker had with the WWE.Sting has done so much more than the Undertaker, with so much less. The thing is, Sting would've still been just as big of a legend without his "Crow" gimmick. 3 out of the record 4 times that Sting won PWI's Most Popular Wrestler award was BEFORE THE CROW GIMMICK. Sting was winning the most popular wrestler award with a 1/3 of the audience that Hulk Hogan had.
6) Sting was a part of the nWo Wolfpac... which was the most popular wrestling faction of all-time. At the height of WCW in 1998 the nWo Wolfpac was the most popular faction ever in terms of popularity (Sting was the most popular wrestler in the world in 1997 during the biggest time in wrestling history in terms of ratings as evidenced by him winning a record 4th PWI Most Popular Wrestler award). All anyone talked about was how awesome the Wolfpac was back then. They were like rock stars, and yes they were more popular than DX at the time... they just weren't around as long because WCW had to figure out how to end the nWo angle all together. Also, Sting was a part of the most legendary faction in TNA Wrestling, The Main Event Mafia.
7) Sting is one of the 1st wrestlers to have 2 different finishing maneuvers. Sting would beat you with a Scorpion Death Drop or the Scorpion Deathlock (Sharpshooter). Sting and Ronnie Garvin were the first two wrestlers to use the move prolifically in North America BEFORE BRET HART as it was originally called the Scorpion Deathlock which is derived from its original Japanese name. Sharpshooter was coined by Bret Hart later on, so despite what some think Sting popularized the move in N.America before Bret Hart did.
I could go on, but I think I've made a pretty strong case for Sting being the better wrestler.
